Hurrey's Pinion & Caster Wizard
Rear axle LEFT, frame MIDDLE, front / driveshaft RIGHT. Use this to visualize working angles,
compare against baseline specs, and make smarter calls on pinion vs. caster trade-offs.
All angles are referenced to level ground (0° = perfectly level).

Angle Summary
Using preset spec
Front Axle – Caster & Working Angle
–
Enter angles to calculate.
Rear Axle – Pinion vs Driveshaft
–
Enter angles to calculate.
Start by selecting vehicle/platform, then enter measured angles (use an angle finder on the driveshaft and
yokes). This wizard will compare against typical caster and pinion targets for that platform.
Shop Note: This tool is a visual aid, not a substitute for professional alignment specs.
Angles shown are approximate and assume flat, level ground and factory reference points.
Always road test, verify driveshaft/u-joint operating angles, and re-torque all suspension hardware.
Rear Pinion vs. Driveshaft
DS: –°
Pinion: –°
Diff: –°
In this view, the rear axle housing is on the left, the frame sits in the middle,
and the driveshaft/transfer case are on the right. The angle between the driveshaft and
the pinion yoke is your working angle – keep it small but not zero.
Front Caster & Driveshaft
DS: –°
Pinion: –°
Caster: –°
Here you’re looking at front caster (steering axis tilt) and the relationship between the
front driveshaft and the front pinion. More caster = better straight-line feel,
but lifting and rotating the pinion to help the CV shaft can trade that away.
